ABOUT THE FILM

2016 (NR) 91 min.

Director: Jon Klaczkiewicz
Producer: Red Bull Media and Brain Farm

Featuring: Travis Rice, Mark Landvik, Eric Jackson, Pat Moore, Mikkel Bang, Bryan Iguchi, Victor De Le Rue, Cam Fitzpatrick, Shin Biyajima, Bode Merrill

For the first time since dropping what’s widely considered to be the best action sports movie of all time, “The Art of FLIGHT,” Travis Rice and some of the best talent in snowboarding will return to the big screen for our viewing pleasure. Rice’s highly anticipated new project promises to raise the bar yet again for the genre.

“It has taken everything I have learned over my life to prepare for what the past several years has challenged us with,” Rice said. “Immersion into the winter wilderness with a few trusted comrades and a vow to not ride anything we have ever ridden before has made this the most exciting project yet. We have a team of some of the most committed riders, and a production crew that has gone all in.”

It will be the first snowboard movie filmed entirely with 4K cameras, and no expenses were spared en route to this compilation of what is sure to be some timeless ripping from a very, very stacked cast. Rice is joined by Mark Landvik, Mikkel Bang, Eric Jackson, Pat Moore and Bryan Iguchi and they’re filmed in a fashion like you’ve never seen before.

The project has been a multi-year production, and Rice has run a pretty tight ship over the course of the filming thus far. His social media accounts have become vague and useless tracking mechanisms for his travels, as he makes sure to digitally cover up his footprints after every step onto fresh powder.

The film is under the directorial savvy of a two-man team, Curt Morgan and Jon “JK” Klaczkiewicz, both action sports heavyweights and visionaries within the snowboarding world.

“Making this film has been one of the most challenging yet gratifying experiences in my life,” said Morgan, CEO of Brain Farm and the same director who worked with Rice on “That’s It, That’s All” and “The Art of FLIGHT.” “Our team has pushed deep into the backcountry with new technology in hopes to capture snowboarding in a way it has never been seen before.”

Vanity Fair says about The Fourth Phase:

“How does the top snowboarder in the world top The Art of Flight? By risking it all on a four-year journey to make the shredder’s equivalent of a National Geographic movie…..This is a snowboarding movie for people who don’t snowboard. A National Geographic special that visits corners of the world accessible only by helicopter and that just happens to have the most fearless snowboarders barreling down near-vertical slopes. It is, as Rice says throughout the film, about embracing the unknown.” – Bill Bradley, Vanity Fair

BD Race Team Stands Out In The 2016 M2D Bike Ride

BD Race Team Stands Out In The 2016 M2D Bike Ride

bootdoctors-2016-mountain-to-deserts-bike-ride

A favorite among locals, this years’ Mountains To Desert Bike Ride was yet another hit!  With the weather being a little brisk in the early morning for the descent from Telluride to the balmy temperatures at the finish line in Gateway, a good time was sure had by all!81d56de003999a75cdca416c811e5498

With over 190 participants, the 70 – 100 mile (depending on where you started on the route) bike ride consists of towering 14,000-foot peaks and a curvy descent that parallels the San Miguel River down from Telluride.  The riders soon started a short climb at mile 28 which lead riders to the summit of Norwood Hill, overlooking miles of ranches, farmlands and the La Sal Mountains.

From Norwood, the ride continues through Naturita, Nucla and Uravan and winds further along the Unaweep-Tabeguache Scenic and Historic Byway past the Hanging Flume. Riders passed millions of years of history, geology and ancient lands. The route subsequently meanders along the Dolores River at the base of thousand-foot red sandstone walls into the sleepy town of Gateway, CO.

One of the best parts about this event is that each year the bike ride serves as the single fundraising event for the JUST FOR KIDS FOUNDATION. Every dollar raised through participant fundraising before and during the ride is matched dollar for dollar by the Carstens Family Fund at the Denver Foundation. That money is then awarded to individuals and organizations that provide leadership opportunities for regional youth as well as organizations that promote self-sufficiency and responsibility. Over the past ten years, the Just For Kids Foundation is proud to have raised over $2 Million; all of which has been awarded to hundreds of organizations benefiting thousands of underprivileged children.

The BootDoctors’ ride team this year was quite the contingent in the overall race performance.  Our own Bob Gleason finished 13th, Max Cooper finished 2nd, Mike Messnar finished 6th and Ricky finished 2nd in the hill climb portion of the event. These standings were among a group of 199 riders from Telluride to Gateway. The team raised over $2,000 in fundraising efforts, to boot! We are very proud to have so many team members that are active and support such a great event for an even better cause. For the official race results, CLICK HERE

Get a recap of this years happenings by watching the video below and sign up for next year…it will be here before we know it! Next year’s Mountains to the Desert Bike Ride will take place on Saturday, September 23, 2017. Be sure to mark your calendars. Registration will likely open in early May.

Mountain Biking Eye Candy

Telluride Mountain Biking – The season is upon us!

[media width=”800″ height=”500″ link=”http://vimeo.com/67042197″]

As the Mountain Biking season is well under way in both Telluride and in Taos smiles are a plenty from the joy a bike can bring.  If you can’t be on your bike (stuck in the office, it’s too dark/my lights don’t work or hopefully not, hurt and recovering) watching someone else ride their bike is the next best thing.  We here at BootDoctors® and Paragon Outdoors spend countless hours exploring bikes via riding, talking, the internet, print media and videos.  This example of film from Union Production Co. caught our attention.  The visuals are creative and crisp, the landscapes engaging the imagination for travel via two wheels.  After all bikes are a form of transportation, for the mind, the body and the soul.  Grab some popcorn and a drink…Enjoy!
