This fall, the annual tradition is back to salute the start of winter. The world’s biggest name in snowsports cinema—Warren Miller Entertainment—celebrates its 68th ski and snowboard film with downhill thrills, global adventure, and a nod to those who taught us to slide on snow.

Snow riders are a family—one big tribe comprising many smaller ones. Familial rites pass down through generations. Skier roots grow deep in high mountain soil. “Line of Descent” celebrates just that, the lineage of legendary athletes through a multi-generational cast of skiing’s icons and fresh faces, including Tommy Moe, Jonny Moseley, JT Holmes, Lexi duPont, Seth Wescott, Kalen Thorien, Marcus Caston, Jeremy Jensen, Griffin Post, and more.

This year, Volkswagen joins the most esteemed name in winter sports films as the presenting sponsor of the “Line of Descent” U.S. film tour. The partnership builds on the heritage and passion associated with both the Volkswagen and Warren Miller brands. Volkswagen’s partnership will grow authentically well into 2019, elevating the event experience that is the Warren Miller institution and marking the beginning of every winter season.

Ride along on a stunning cinematic journey as we travel near and far, descending some of North America’s deepest lines in Jackson Hole, Montana, Silverton, Squaw Valley | Alpine Meadows, and Steamboat.

From splitboard to powsurfer, motorcycle, dogsled, and snowmobile, the athletes employ nearly all possible means to chase winter along the Beartooth Pass, the French Alps, New Zealand, British Columbia, and Norway.

“This season, we explore how skiers are shaped by picking up a pair of skis for the first time,” notes Warren Miller’s veteran producer Josh Haskins. “More often than not, it’s family who introduces us to the sport or steers us on the path toward an ongoing passion—be it a ski-bum lifestyle, a professional career, or simply the desire to pass on the same feeling to the next generation. There is a kinship unlike any other in the ski community, and Warren Miller is the elder, bringing generations of skiers and riders together for 68 years, and this year is no different.”

Since 1949, ski families have cheered the official kickoff of winter with the ski film company that started it all. The new Opera House SHOW Bar opens at 5 p.m. and will be open throughout the entire evening.

“DROP EVERYTHING”

Thursday December 21st, 2017 • 6pm & 9pm

Tickets $15/adults • $7/kids 18 & Under (6pm Show Only) • Sheridan Opera House • Telluride, CO

The Sheridan Arts Foundation and Bootdoctors presents Matchstick Productions’ latest ski film “Drop Everything” on Thursday, Dec. 21 with screenings at 6 and 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 for each film for adults and $7 for kids 18 and under at the 6 p.m. screening only. The screenings are sponsored by BootDoctors, who are generously providing swag to be given away and raffled off.

The winter of 2017 provided the team at Matchstick Productions with a clean slate and an opportunity to get back to their roots. As illustrated by the new trailer for “Drop Everything”, that shift in thinking meant that everyone involved had the time of their lives making this new ski film.

“Drop Everything” is the brainchild of veteran director Scott Gaffney, the man behind “There’s Something About McConkey” and other Matchstick classics. “As a film company, it seems we’ve been working to impress viewers in so many different ways – moving stories, elaborate cinematography, and cutting-edge editing techniques. We’ve been after the ‘wow’ factor,” says Gaffney.

Audiences can expect unparalleled performances from many of the top skiers in the world. “Drop Everything” features Mark Abma, Markus Eder, Eric Hjorleifson, Michelle Parker, Sammy Carlson, Cody Townsend, Elyse Saugstad, Tanner Rainville, Chris Rubens, Aaron Blunck, Sander Hadley, Connery Lundin, and more. The next-level action was captured in world-class destinations including Meadow Lodge, British Columbia, Lake Tahoe, CA, Whistler BC, Crested Butte CO, Revelstoke BC, and Silverton, CO.

Always on the leading edge of camera technologies, Matchstick Productions filmed the entire movie in 6K ultra high-definition. According to Matchstick co-founders Steve Winter and Murray Wais, the difference will shatter viewers’ expectations. “Pricing of UHD TVs and other devices has come down while streaming bandwidth has simultaneously improved, meaning it’s easier than ever to access ultra HD content,” says Wais. Winter adds, “This will easily be the best-looking film we’ve ever released. Vivid colors, precise picture detail, and rich audio will make this a very memorable viewing experience.”

“Drop Everything” is presented by Under Armour with support from Avery Brewing Company, Freeskier Magazine, and a host of industry partners.

The new Opera House SHOW Bar opens at 5 p.m. and will be open throughout the entire evening. Bootdoctors will be raffling of tons of great swag at both screenings.
